Roberts, who was hired in November 2023, submitted his resignation letter on 17 January 2024, stating that his family has decided to pursue other opportunities due to forthcoming changes in city management. His last workday will be on 2 February 2024. The resignation comes shortly after the termination of City Manager Bob Harrison, who was voted out by the Yakima City Council on 2 January 2024. The city has not yet found a replacement for Roberts and expects the hiring process to take three to four months.
The departure of the Finance Director could disrupt the city’s financial management and budgetary planning, as the position is responsible for overseeing all financial operations and providing strategic guidance.
