The Governors’ Climate and Forests Task Force (GCF Task Force) actively participated in the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held in Dubai, emphasizing the urgent need for subnational climate action. The GCF Task Force called for the international community to endorse tropical forest conservation and sustainable economic development in their regions and solicited partnerships to provide funding to support climate mitigation and adaptation efforts. The Task Force also focused on leveraging the voice of indigenous peoples, local communities, and women from tropical jurisdictions and strengthening connections within and beyond the GCF Task Force member jurisdictions. Collaboration was highlighted as key for tackling jurisdictional climate challenges, and the Task Force looks forward to continued collaboration at their annual technical meeting in Bolivia in April 2023.
